On the sweeping Deosai plains and foothills of the Himalayas, a remarkable conservation initiative is underway…the Himalayan Wildlife Project. Founded and led by Vaqar Zakaria and Doctor Anis Rehman, the Himalayan Wildlife project is an independent and non-profit organisation which has spearheaded a committed and passionate campaign to ensure the survival of the Himalayan brown bear in Pakistan.
With the help of their South African counterparts headed by Doctor Douw Grobler from the Kruger National Park, they set out on a mission to save this highly endangered Bear species. The Himalayan Wildlife project and the recently established Deosai National Park is the last chance of survival for Pakistan’s largest omnivore. With the plans in place, the project will finally commence, but will it be enough? The duo of conservationists will be put to the test through training and lessons to make sure this bear will survive for generations.
